Trying to figure out the name of this anime?

hey when i was younger i used to watch this anmie i cant remember the name of. it stars a boy and a girl in the real world going on crazy adventures. i could be wrong but i think it changed animation styles as it went along. i remember in episode one some lady died by falling and they ended up in an 8bit type video game. the boy died repetativly and the girl dragged him back to be revived. i think that a few episodes in they ended up in the future or something and one of them was turned into a dwarf/gnome some unlucky small animal. i know this isnt much info it was YEARS ago but still... anyways thanks
