Blackish color on alternator wire coils.?

I have a 1964 honda cb160 that I am fixing up, and when I took the engine case cover off, I noticed that the wire coils in the alternator were a dark brown/blackish color. It almost looks like they are covered in oil, but are not wet at all. Why is this and will it effect my bike? Everything else around these coils are spotless.
