I am being frowned upon for having a summer job?

ok, so i am 16 and this summer I am working at a chain coffee & donut place called Tim Hortons (similar to Dunkin Donuts). I go to a small private school and no one else in my grade (now 11) or even grade 12 are working for the summer. My parents are making me work - not that they couldn't provide me with money - but because they want to get me ready for the real world and i think they want me to get used to the fact that mommy and daddy will not be dishing out money & free meals, shelter, etc. forever. anyways...especially among kids at my school....i am being frowned upon for having a job. Almost in a snobbish way, like I don't have to work and you do. haha. why are they like this?
