Can it take longer than 5 days for D-Con bait to work?

if they are eating the bait usually 4-5 days is all is needed, the problem with using the pellets instead of the block is it can be easily removed to another location for storage and not eaten...since they are coming to get your bait pellets I would stick a glue trap where you place the pellets to make sure you get the rodent with no guessing.
