The last line of mice and men is "Now what the hell ya suppose is eatin' them two guys?" what does he mean?

I need help with my english homework, and i don't know why steinbeck chose the line "Now what the hell ya suppose is eatin' them two guys?" at the end of the novel. Can someone help please?
